The Perfect Red Lip

As a creature of habit, I try to stick with neutrals when it comes to lips. I love pinks and nudes so that I can do a dramatic eye. Recently, I have been doing the very light makeup routine consisting of a light base with blush and mascara and that's it. To add a little pop to my face I've been contemplating trying to incorporate a bold red lip.

So the true questions are:
How do I pick the perfect red lip color?
How red do I go?
Should I do matte or gloss?

Have you tried the bold red lip? Do you have a favorite brand?!

  1. yes! I love the red lip! It took me a little while to take the plunge but once I did I am obsessed. My favorite still is the one I reviewed the YSL lip stain It is the perfect red and doesn't come off on things :-)

  2. I am so afraid of red lipstick! Which is ridiculous but I seriously am. I've tried it on several occasions and always end up wiping it off. The NYX "extra creamy round" I've heard is good so I should just buy that and hope that I can finally work up the courage?

Thanks so much for posting about this!!

  3. I'm all about the red lip in the winter! Anything to brighten things up! I usually go for a gloss or a matte lip butter like Revlon colorburst lip gloss or Maybelline Color Whisper. I usually go for a warmer tone with some pinks in it just to be safe :) xoxo, Lindsay

  5. I'm like the last person to answer this question because I always go with a neutral lip! I want to start branching out though. I really love the red but I think it will take some time until I try to pull that off! The first picture is amazing - love her makeup!

  7. I'm usually not a fan of lipstick or gloss because I feel that its too sticky and I'm always afraid that it'll smear or I'll have to constantly retouch for it to look good.. MAC however makes amazing matted bold colors that are long lasting so I always go with those :)

  8. I've got to say glossy - but that's just because matte doesn't work for me. I love the maybelline color whispers - they definitely have some color but feel more like a balm. might be a good way to ease into the bright lip?

  9. Hey hey B! I use MAC Red as my go to red lip with a matching red liner to make sure it doesn't bleed since it's such a bold choice. I would def. go to MAC or Sepora so you can get a feel as to which shade of red looks good on your skin tone :)

  10. Hey love! Look at your wrist and if your veins are greenish, you have warm undertones. If they're blue/purple you've got a cool undertone. Pick your reds according to your undertones. I have to wear mauve, berry toned reds.
You'll look great with red lips!!

  11. Try Tarte cosmetics, they have really pretty colors and it seems like every color they offer in their makeup is very wearable. I love their makeup. I think it is also supposed to be more on the natural side which is always a good thing.
