In The Know

The conversation starts out innocently enough with your co-workers or a friend, "Did you hear what's going on with {insert current event}??? This question alone is enough to make you break out into a cold sweat!! You know bits & pieces but are you confident?? Will the response you give be your final answer?!

Our generation is seriously informed - breaking news hits twitter before the national stations can pick it up!! Gone are the days of reading an actual news paper - I mean that news is so yesterday (kidding...)!  As young professionals or even just humans, it's our responsibility to have an opinion, to know what's going on and to be well informed!! So the question remains - how do you get your information?

For me it's really a combination of a lot of different things!
If you take anything away from this post - please sign up for the Skimm!! You get an email daily that breaks down all the current events into layman's terms. I read this as soon as my alarm goes off and sometimes it's things I've heard the day before, but most of the time it's pertinent information to help me stay informed. The topics range from issues with the government to who is winning in the NCAA tournament! This little email will change your day!

While getting ready for work I watch the Today Show, which sometimes is news worthy, but other times it's just a glorified E!News program. Since I work behind a computer all day - I try to check the news as much as possible and visit  CNN a few times a day.

I peruse online media as well and check out the headlines to each of the papers & read the ones that sound interesting to me. Luckily I am able to view the online version of The Wall Street Journal through a work subscription, but most of their articles are open to be read. The NY Times & Boston.com (locally) are great sources of information to me as well.

Probably my favorite way to get the news...is through Facebook & Twitter...sad but true!! Just yesterday there was a 9 Alarm Fire in the Back Bay (where a lot of my friends live) and I found out through Twitter!! Like it or not - this is the fastest and probably easiest way to get the news now!

April 10th The Mindy Project is back!!

How do you like to get your news?

xo,
Biana

P.S. Did you see my post on Wedding Party's blog yesterday?!

  4. Joined Skimm because keeping up on Current Events is one of my "I wish I were an adult" habits on my post today. If that's not a sign I'm not sure what is!

  5. Twitter is insane how fast the news comes! When there was an explosion in NYC a few weeks ago, I had 3 texts asking if I was ok and I didn't even know what happened!

  6. I love The Skimm! I try to make time to read it every morning! And that's true -- I knew about an issue with our city's mayor because of facebook before I ever saw it on the news! Crazy!

  7. I've never heard of theSkimm, but I'm checking it out now! Twitter is usually how I find out about things first, but I find myself refreshing the Washington Post & NPR, quite often as well!

  14. It's almost scary how quickly news travels these days!! I'm not on the internet constantly since I only have it on my computer, and sometimes I feel that I get behind very quickly!

  16. I always start my morning off with the news (mainly to hear the traffic report). I wish the Skimm was an app, emails everyday don't sound all that appealing!

  17. I did the skimm for a little while but quickly was overwhelmed by the daily emails (even though that's what I signed up for, lol). And you are so right about the Today show being somewhat like E news. :) BTW, what do you do?

  19. I liked the Skimm when I signed up for it...I actually think it is a pretty brilliant idea, but now I just delete the email every morning. My half hour of the Today show while getting ready is more than enough info for me :) Totally get the E! News comparison!

  20. I also watch the today show every morning when I get ready for work :) My husband thought I was nuts and then when he was laid off work so far this year he sits there and watches the ENTIRE show all morning. Then when I come home he refers to "Al" as if they're friends. Totally cracks me up! :) I have the skimm too but I'm not a huge fan of that. I often just delete it :) Oh and I love watching Inside Edition and ET every night if I'm not busy :)
