Travel Makeup Essentials

As much as I wish I could take every single eye shadow palette, blush and bronzer I own on trips with me, it just doesn't make sense!
I usually pack a roll-up make-up case regardless of length & this time I'm challenging myself to bring a small cosmetics case, the same one I bring when I gym it in the mornings!! This will also leave me a little more room in my carry-on tote
Garnier BB Cream// My all over face "primer" - evens out my skin
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (Vanilla)// To hide all those dark circles and also doubles as a highlighter if I need to contour
Viktor Rolf Flower Bomb//The rollerball is the best way to travel with perfume
Jordana Eyeliner (Eggplant)// I've mentioned this liner before and it's my go to - doesn't smudge either
MAC Studio Fix Powder (NC30)// I've been faithful to this powder for the last 10 years, gives me the matte finish I love
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush (Glisten)// Stays put for over 12 hours
Benefit's Hoolah Bronzer//Perfect all over color and takes forever to go through a box
L'Oreal Lash Out Butterfly Mascara//I blogged about the mascara before and it's still a favorite
Too Faced Chocolate Bar// 16 shades and different from the Naked Palettes, this one has purples & greens and just offers a better variety for a trip.
Gigi New York Zip Pouch
While I might be going "light" on the makeup, lipsticks and glosses I'll always overdo it, I just never know what my mood will call for! Side note - I also carry all of these with me daily!
From Left to Right:
Body of Royalty (Desires)
NYX Butter Gloss (Strawberry Parfait)
NYX Butter Gloss (Apple Strudel)
MAC Satin Finish (Snob)
Body of Royalty (High Class)
Make Up Forever (Rouge Artist N9)
Not pictured my make-up brushes because I'm a little ashamed that I haven't cleaned them in a few weeks!!
I hope you enjoyed a peek into my makeup bag? Do travel with all your makeup or like to keep it light on trips? What do you have to bring with you?

  1. Love this!! I HAVE to bring my Makeup For Ever concealer and my BB cream. Oh and mascara of course! I just got the original Naked palette (a few years late) and I absolutely love it :)

  2. Ok, I need to get my hands on that chocolate bar asap! How have I never seen this or heard of this?! If it weren't 7:15 am, I would be sprinting out the door to Sephora!

  3. Ohhhh my -- you have the GiGi zip pouch. I need EVERYTHING from them! Though I don't use all of the same brands, I use the same products on a daily basis! I want to try the NARS concealer though! xo

  4. Garnier BB cream is my daily savior - I have no idea what I used to do without it! What do you think of MAC Snob - is it office-appropriate? I've been looking for a new, everyday, pink-ish lipstick and MAC is always my go-to makeup shop.

  5. ok I need that chocolate bar palette like yesterday. How have I never seen it before?! I love too faced eye shadows. I have definitely been trying to take less makeup with me when I travel, but I always overdo it even though I'm not even a huge makeup wearer. I take my tinted moisturiser, but then I might need my 'proper' foundation... lol and so it goes. I'm pretty faithful to my Nars blush but I might try that BB cream, and the mascara.. and the MAC powder. I have never bought MAC powder before, so many colours! Too intimidating lol

  6. my makeup bag is really REALLY light. as in i don't even carry a makeup bag to work anymore because i never use anything in it and it just took up space. but when i travel, i have to carry with me: my concealer, eye lash curler, blush, bronzer, gloss (even though the gloss probably won't even get used). that's it!

  7. I can go pretty light since I can stick with face cream and bronzer, then a small eye shadow palette and mascara. I will always go nuts on the gloss too though! Can't decide!

  8. I bring my Naked palette everywhere! I've never heard of the Chocolate Bar one but now I need to check it out! Where have I been?? And I always have multiple lip glosses and lipsticks with me at all times!!

  10. I have a zip pouch for just lip products as well (naturally). I always wonder why my purse is so dang heavy and then I realize.....oh I have like 3 zip pouches of makeup to go but I seriously use them everyday! I need that Gigi zip so cute!!!

  11. I only travel with rollerballs too! I just finished up the Flowerbomb one (love it) and testing out the new Tory Burch fragrance. It’s the easiest way to travel with perfume and now worry about breaking the bottle!

  12. LOVE what you brought. that palette is one of my FAVES!

  13. I have a strange love for when an entire makeup look fits perfectly in a little bag. I practically do my makeup with that challenge in mind! haha! But like you--I always have a gazillion lip products with me. I've been experimenting with the bold lip a lot lately but always panic that it's going to look ridiculous (or that I'm going to get sick of worrying about it) and want to throw on a more natural lip. Sigh. The life of a woman, right? haha. (PS your travel cases are adorable!)

  14. These are all perfect for traveling. I've heard great things about the flower bomb perfume. I may have to try it out! And that GiGi NY mini pouch is too cute!!

  15. i love the idea of using a GiGi NY pouch for makeup!! xo jillian - cornflake dreams

  16. Wow!! I wish I knew how to do my make up! I seriously pack my BB cream, powder foundation, blush, my ONE little eye shadow (I wish I could remember the color, from MAC, but it's basically a nude shimmer, ha!) and mascara! Boring!

  17. Great post! I have a Vera Bradley (paying homage to my Newport days haha) makeup bag that I take with me on trips. Since I plan my outfits for each day, I just bring the lipsticks that I know go with those outfits. Love that Gigi NY pouch and that "chocolate bar" just makes me want chocolate.. lol. In my purse I just have a little makeup pouch that my sister got for me in Singapore that I carry a few things in. :-)

  18. I love these posts because it makes me feel better that I'm not the only woman out there that struggles with packing makeup for trips! I probably bring a few more items than you do, but that's just because I usually can't decide between products. :) I'll keep this in mind while packing for Vegas in a couple weeks!

  19. Loving all of those lip shades! Omg I need that chocolate bar palette!

  20. I'm like you, I always have TONS of lip glosses and sticks in my purse.

I've been rocking the same look for awhile, just for ease of the mornings and it's been neat playing with just one palette. I do need to update though.

  21. It's so easy to overpack on the lip products! Those last two colors look so pretty for this time of the year & into winter! Every time I use Hoola I think i love it more and more-- you're so right about it lasting forever!

  22. I'm not super good at makeup, so I just pack what little I actually know how to use - coverup, mascara, blush, and eyeliner! But when it comes to lipstick and gloss, i can't have enough! Those get their own pouch haha and I really love that dark shade! And I'm super impressed you get to the gum before work! Go you!!

  23. Travel Make Up became essential to me in the last year. I used to cart it all. Okay not all because that would be my whole suitcase but now I have a nice little tote.

  24. I love every thing in these little bags. I couldn't decided between the Naked palette and the you have.

  25. This is great- I just recently down-sized my purse haul so that counts as traveling make-up right? haha! Great picks and I adore the Garnier BB too!

  26. I always bring all of mine, but I don't have a ton of variety. I tend to like what I like and stick to tried and true favorites. I also don't wear much face makeup or eyeshadow. I still want to try those butter glosses. They look pretty! Ive heard so many great things about the flower bomb perfume. I'm really curious to know what the scent is like now. I've always loved Ralph Lauren. I also like Versace bright crystal and Chance by Chanel. XO

  30. I carry between 6-8 lip glosses with me at all times!! And so funny, my makeup brushes haven't been cleaned in FOREVER... I'm sooo bad at remembering to do it but I actually have it on my "to do" list today!

  31. Great picks and love that makeup bag! I am very similar with what I use....BB cream, bronzer and blush and a million choices of lip gloss or lipstick! I love Mac lip sticks, Estee Lauder mascara and Benefit blush and bronzer.

  33. I'm definitely a light traveler! Last year I invested a couple hundred dollars into mini travel sized versions of my everyday wear makeup - it's been great not having to figure out how to strategically pack my full sized versions, and anything "mini" is always so much cuter! :)

  34. I do good to remember Chapstick :)
I need to learn to be more girly

  35. i love that first makeup case but your gigi new york one is fabulous!! :)

  36. I also use that Garnier bb cream as a primer. It creates such a smooth canvas. Love it!

  37. I totally need to clean out my makeup bag. I carry way to much stuff in it. I think I have like five different concealers in it right now. I think I'm going to start leaving a little makeup bag at work for those "just in case" days. Why carry about so much stuff that I won't use?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have to have mascara, eyeshadow, eye liner, lip balm/gloss and blush. I have BB cream but I honestly don't use it every day, usually only once or twice a week when I'm feeling fancy. ;)

  39. Ugh makeup is one of the hardest thing to pack. Deciding between eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks is always hard.

  40. I have to have mascara and an array of lipstick colors at the least! These are great choices!

  41. I actually brought my Naked3 on my trip this past weekend and have been known to bring more than 1 :-P

I still need to check out your NARS creamy concealer, almost out of my Erase Paste so I think I'll see if I like this better. Great rec!

  42. I always tell myself I'm going to take it easy when packing makeup, but I hate feeling like I'll be unprepared for something! I'm getting better at reminding myself that I can always buy something when I get there if I REALLY need it or simply go without. I HAVE to bring my tinted moisturizer (I use in lieu of foundation), concealer (dark circles are the devil!!) and mascara. I also always have some lip colors with me, so that goes without saying :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have a post just like this coming up .. about what Im packing in my makeup bag for my trip! All great choices and essentials from you!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I seriously base my makeup on the clothes I pack. My toiletry bag is definitely the last things I gather because I still use them the day of before I leave. My daily makeup look is pretty simple and doesn't require a lot of packing but, if i know I have a specific occasion that requires more effort, I have to make sure I pack a palette just to have options. =D Otherwise, everything else is pretty much what I use on the daily, which definitely makes it simpler when it comes to traveling. =)

  45. I have had my eye on that chocolate bar palette! And I love NYX lip butters! Great choices!

I have a bare minerals eye shadow color that goes with everything that I usually take on vacation, that or my naked palette. I try to stay minimalist the best that I can.

  46. Love your picks! I've seen the Chocolate Bar before -- the colors are awesome!!

  47. I love Hoola!!!!!!!!!!!!! How does the Flowerbomb roller work as far as how strong the scent is? I love that smell but I do NOT want to pay a million dollars for the spray, haha!

  48. If it's NARS or MAC, then I'm all about it. Both brands are my go-tos!
