Quick and Easy Go-To Juices

Yesterday I posted a picture of a fresh juice that I made for Monday morning, but before I get into why I love fresh pressed juice so much, I should explain why we started juicing! After watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead on Netflix last year (it should still be on there for you to stream); Gary and I decided that we needed to incorporate juices into our daily lives. It really helps with detoxifying your body! We went out and bought the Breville Juicer (same one he uses in the documentary). It's a bit pricey, but we had our 20% off coupon as well as some credits to Bed Bath & Beyond, so it ended up costing us a penny...yes that's correct! I also found this one from Amazon and also this one from High Fashion Home for a bit cheaper.
Once we knew all the benefits to juicing - we started to incorporate it into our mornings at least twice a week. We've fallen off here and there as it does get expensive buying fresh produce so often, but when I think of eating an apple or drinking fresh apple juice with no additives, I'd always prefer the fresh juice option.

We don't really have a set recipe but we like to include strawberries, apples, carrots, oranges, cucumbers, kiwi and kale. Anything that can produce a lot of juice!!

Here are a few we've tried:

We don't add any milk or anything aside from the vegetables and fruit that we are juicing...so these are not smoothies, but strictly juices!
I haven't been on an all juice cleanse and I'm not sure I can replace all my meals for one day - let alone for three, but I loved some of the Blue Print Cleanse juices so we've made the green and red juice as well!
I usually drink one for breakfast two to three times a week, instead of having eggs or an English muffin. It's what works for me, but in no way do I expect it to work for everyone!

Are you a fan of juices? What are your favorite ingredients to include?

  1. Eek so glad you posted this! I want to try to start juicing but I'm not a fan of the normal green ones. I definitely couldn't go on an all juice cleanse... I wish I could, but replacing one meal a day sounds like a good place to start! Those Blue Print ones sound really good!!

  3. I have one of those NutriBullets and I'll go on these kicks where I'm making a ton of smoothies/juices from fruits + veggies. Your post reminds me I should start up again! Great way to get vitamins + nutrients. :)

  5. We got a juicer from our wedding but I definitely haven't put it to its full use. I must try some of these recipes! I love the Naked juices but they are so expensive! I must try the Bright Eyed Green Juice!

  6. I've been thinking for a while that it's time to get a juicer, some of these look yummy. Like you there is no way I could do a juice cleanse (I don't even know if I could replace a meal with just juice lol), but I would love to incorporate some of these into my every day diet :)

  7. I love juicing and I REALLY love that you got yours for a penny!! I have the same one and it's great, I just hate the clean up :) I usually make kale or spinach, cucumber, lime or lemon and apple with ginger. Honestly, I will throw whatever we have on hand in! I did Blueprint over the summer and while I love some of their juices, a whole cleanse was pretty brutal. Cheers to juicing!!!

  8. I've done smoothie kicks, but I've never tried the pure juice route...your pictures look yummy and I know there are tons of health benefits, so thanks for the inspiration to start experimenting with my blender soon!

  9. I don't juice too often (husband won't eat/drink most fruits for the sugar content, so then it's just me and I won't get through it all without going bad), but I love drinking them when I do make em'!

  10. I have been saying I need a juicer for years but now I really need one. I love the sound of that first recipe.

  15. We got a juicer for a wedding gift and I love it! I just hate cleaning it :/ But, I do love trying out new juice recipes and always feel so much better when I include fresh juices in my diet. I've never actually tried a cleanse before, but it may be something to try post baby to kick the baby weight!

  18. I LOVE juicing and am so mad that I've gotten behind on it! I love fruit juices but I've always heard to "Drink your veggies but eat your fruits" so I try to do mainly green recipes. If you ever want to do a juice cleanse let me know and I'll totally be your buddy. I did one 2 years ago and have wanted to try it again ever since!

  19. I have honestly never juiced anything- definitely more of a smoothie kind of girl but I would definitely try it! (not the cleanse though…gotta have my real food!)

  20. I have never tried juicing. I so need to get a juicier to try some. There is a new "juice" place in Government Center but its very pricey. I think one juice is around 9 dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I've never tired juicing, but I love the idea of getting so many vitamins and nutrients in one glass of juice! We don't have a juicer but we do have a Vitamix and I thinks it would work so I need to try it out!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I was curious about your juice you posted yesterday! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to try it, but not sure I want to invest in a juicer just yet! Do you recommend any pre-made juices?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd probably last 10 minutes on an all-juice cleanse/diet. I am intrigued by this though - one of my co-workers at my former job was VERY into juicing, and she said she always felt so much better after she had one. I'll have to give one of these a try instead of my normal green smoothie!

  24. I'm with you! I couldn't bring myself to give up meals for a full day (or 3 or 5) no will power! But Eric and I keep talking about how we need to make juicing a regular thing. To be honest, I'm not a fan! I'd rather have a smoothie any day... but I know it's so healthy so I have no problem making myself drink them, even though I don't like it!

  25. Ive never done a green juice, but I love green smoothies! I also love carrot juice! XO

  26. I'm not a fan of an all-juice diet, I'd be starving all of the time! Haha. I think that one 2-3 times a week like you're doing is a much better idea!! Some of them sound really refreshing and delicious too! :-) I hope that you are having a good day so far too!! :-)

  27. I love juicing, but can't see the benefits of an all juice diet either. I think it's a great way to get extra nutrients in your body, especially if you don't have time to eat an actual salad or something. I juice when I need a pick me up and when I have time, because it's not the quickest of things to do in the kitchen. And I hate throwing away the pulp, so I like to try to make muffins right after I juice, which takes time.

  28. I've heard so many awesome things about juicing! I'm the weird kid that never, ever liked juice (even the ones pumped full of nothing but artificial flavors and sugar). We've considered juicing too, but I'd have to go into it knowing it's not for fun but for the health benefits!

  29. I've never tried juicing but all of these look oh-so delicious! I want to try making my own, for sure!

  32. I did a 2-day all juice cleanse earlier this year where I actually made all the juices from scratch. Never again. lol Here's the post if you're interested to see my experience: http://www.martinisbikinisblog.com/2014/03/homemade-juice-cleanse.html

  33. I watched that documentary last year - how he did 1 year of strictly juicing is CRAZY!! Pretty sure I would die without bread + vino :)

  34. Good for you guys! I may just have to bite the bullet and get that juicer...both you and a friend of mine seem to love it and I have been wanting to try juicing. We are on a big smoothie kick right now because Cruz loves them and I love that it gives us some fruits and veggies but I'm sure he would love natural juices too!

I did the Suja juice cleanse and it was tough (for me, because I like to put food in my mouth =) but I definitely did feel cleansed and felt great....I think next time I would just add in some fresh fruit because I really just missed chewing my food...and it was only for three days! =) However, I do still get the Suja juices and love them...and especially love that now they are not only at Whole Foods, but Target carries them as well! So great to have a couple in the fridge until I get that juicer!

  35. Yesssss!!! We love juicing over here! Lily even enjoys them. One of our favorite green juices is by Williams Sanoma. It honestly tastes like a green Jolly Rancher!

  37. I'm always so intrigued by juicing, the recipes you guys use sound so good! We have zero space for another kitchen appliance sadly, but I think one day maybe we'll give juicing a shot!

  39. I never tried juicing but I have been thinking about giving it a shot. Are there any "beginner's" juices that you would recommend for breakfast? Some of the ones sound a little to complicated to me... Which one did you start with?

  42. I'm really into smoothies but I've never tried juicing. And I'm not sure why! These all look sooo healthy and delicious! I especially want to try that green one. That looks and sounds so yummy!

  43. I tried a carrot, ginger one recently and I did not like it much. It has fantastic benefits but I had to force myself to drink it. Weird thing is that I like the green ones, which most others do not like. All the ones you posted look good except I had a flashback when I saw the ginger one!

I haven't made them in a while since it is kinda time consuming - then I find myself hungry shortly after. So I like to stick to it on the weekends, rather than on work days.

I like those metal straws. Much better on the environment than plastic!

  44. Ahh I posted about juice yesterday (and plan to tomorrow also lol) this could not have come at a better time! Your recipe sounds delicious :)
There's honestly nothing better for us than a fresh glass of fruits/veggies!

  45. I'm the same as you-I like juices, but I don't think I could do a full on juice cleanse, I like to eat too much! My go-to juice is a couple of carrots, a green apple, and a handful of spinach with some maca powder. Refreshing and energizing!

  46. I'm just getting into juicing. Did a 3 day juice cleanse and it was rough but I definitely noticed a difference. Trying to muster up the motivation/discipline to do another one. But getting into a regular routine might be a good option! Thanks for some new recipes to try!

  48. I've been wanting to buy a juicer lately, I miss fresh juices. Growing up my parents always juiced, anything with watermelon in it was always my fave :)

  49. Fat, Sick and Nearly dead is what made us do the 5 day juice cleanse last year (WAY too long BTW hah). I want to do another cleanse soon, but maybe just a 3 day. Love all the recipe ideas. We try to stick to 75% veggie/25% fruit and mix and match. A slice of ginger (think, thumb nail sized) or half a lemon always perks them up some, too!

  50. Ooo! I'm going to have to try some of these!!

  51. I'd love to juice but I just cant. I hate veggies. I wish I liked them but I just dont. I go to Juice Generation in the morning a few days a week and get a smoothie for breakfast. My favorite is the I Love Watermelon. It is watermelon (obvi), strawberries, blueberries, raspberries raw agave and ice. You should make that one. SO GOOD!

  52. I don't have the patience to juice at home (or the budget or storage/counter space to buy a juicer!) but I do love a good fresh juice. We made fresh juices at a restaurant I used to work at and apple carrot ginger was my favorite! If I'm ever eating out someplace where fresh juice is an option I always go for it. So tasty, so healthy!

  53. I love juice, but usually buy it and not juice it myself. I make a lot of smoothies though, which I can't live without! Great recipe, I'll have to try it.

  55. Oh my gosh, I have a note in my little notebook about doing a blog about juicing. I love juicing, minus having to clean the dang juicer. And I love the beets, carrots, ginger, celery, kale and spinach. I'll pretty much drink or juice anything I can but I try to keep to mostly vegetables and one piece of fruit to sweeten just enough. Great post B!

  58. Definitely saving this! I've been wanting to watch that documentary but food documentaries are so risky...I'm always like OMG I can't eat ANYTHING anymore haha! I've been wanting to try juicing and this may be the push I needed. Thanks for sharing!

  59. I'm a huge fan of green juices too!! I've done the blue print cleanse a couple times and always love it! I think their juices are so yummy!! I've gotten lazy lately and haven't been making my own juices as much as I should. My favorite combination is cucumber, ginger, celery, half an apple! It's so yummy:)

  60. I love green juices (it sounds so basic, but I really do). I've been trying to incorporate more veggies into my juices (carrots, broccoli, etc), but my go to is 1 or 2 ripe bananas, almond milk, spinach/kale/swiss chard, chia seeds, and some frozen strawberries. It looks like straight mud, but is so yummy and filling.
Great post with awesome inspirational recipes! :)

  61. I have never tried to juice before, but I like the idea. I am getting back into protein smoothies in the mornings. Usually I do them with spinach, strawberries, bananas, and some unsweetened vanilla almond milk or chocolate PB2, banana and the almond milk. I wouldn't mind trying juices. Do they fill you at all?

  62. I've never done a juice cleanse, but have heard good things. Love making juice and green smoothies with some protein. Yum!!

  64. I've never juiced before, but i probably drink a smoothie (with added 100% pure fruit juice) four times a week. It's usually my 3pm pick me up. I think I may need to check out the documentary this weekend and start juicing.
