Things My Mom Taught Me

With Mother’s Day this weekend I thought it would be fun to share some wisdom my mom has imparted on me! There is no doubt I am my mother’s daughter, I am her carbon copy which is why we love and argue the same way! I could not be happier to have her personality because to me, she is perfection!

// Love yourself

Be your biggest fan instead of your worst critic. I’m sadly still working on this, but she’s been instilling this in me since I was a child!

//Fight for what you believe in

Fight hard, not dirty!

//Learn to say you’re sorry, mean it and move on

I’m actually a really great person to fight/argue with because of this little tidbit my mom taught me. I can be frustrated, angry or just upset with something that you did, but I’ll tell you, hope for an apology (if you were in the wrong) and then I move on! I get over things rather quickly and so does she – which I think is one of her most endearing qualities!

//Call you grandparents

I don’t think this one need an explanation!

//If you don’t have your health, nothing else matters

Over the years there have been health scares in my family, with friends of my moms or even people neither one of us knew, but we’ll talk about it and at the end of the day she always says- if you have all the money in the world, but aren’t healthy enough to enjoy it, it doesn’t matter!

//There is no truer friend than you mom

I talk to my mom at least twice a day and I don’t see that changing ever!! She’s literally the person I can tell anything to and will never judge me when I’m being bratty (though she’ll tell me) or discourage me when I have a crazy idea – she is my best friend!

//Always look for the bargains

My mom is a shopping super star! She’s the reason I never pay full-price for anything, unless it’s a great handbag!

//Never give up

I’m sure all of your parents have said this to you at some point, don’t give up. I know this to be true with my mom firsthand! In 1978, my mom petitioned to have our family relocated to the United States, she was turned down. For 10 years she never gave up on her dream for us to live in America and in 1988 we were finally granted permission to leave and make a home in Florida. It wasn’t without it’s challenges as most immigrant families can attest to this- but she truly made it happen and because of this I will forever be indebted to her!

While I may not be a mother yet, I think of that day that I feel the love for my child like my mom feels for me and I can’t help but feel excited, but scared all at the same time – seriously how did she ever let me leave the house?!

There is also a wealth of knowledge she imparted on me while dating that I’m happy to share via email with you 🙂

What fabulous lessons did your mom teach you?

    No wonder your beautiful mom is your Hero! My mother is my best friend also! It's crazy how the older I get, the more I appreciate her. I truly do not want to envision a day without her! Thank you for such a wonderful post! To me, you are perfection too, passed to you from your sweet mama!! Happy Wednesday pretty B!!! XOXO

    Aw love this! I am the same way about arguing. I get over things super fast and do not hold grudges. I just don't want to live that way. I'd prefer to put my energy towards positive things. I hope to be half the mom mine is one day. She is the most giving, sacrificing person I know. Although she will not tell me when I am being a brat, which she probably should take a tip from your mom and do so sometimes! lol xo

    I cannot tell you how much I love this post. Your mom sounds like a wonderful lady who has taught you some very wonderful lessons. Learning to say you're sorry, meaning it, and moving on is such an important one. I know too many people who'd rather take any other approach, which is sad because how else can you work things out and move forward?
