Why Elle Woods Is A Great Role Model

It’s no secret Legally Blonde is one of my favorite movies and when I found out that Netflix now streams both movies, my movie loving heart was complete!! I’ve watched it more times than I care to admit and each time I find another reason why Elle Woods is a great character and a pretty fantastic role model! Bare with me…I understand she’s not real, but to me her character is so sweet, nice and blissfully unaware at how people perceive her, you just can’t help but love her! I thought it would be fun to go through a few of the reasons why she’s a kick ass woman!

*warning gif heavy post!

She’s determined and laser focused!

She knows what she’s talking about and nicely tells people off!

She tries to find the good in everyone.

We all have those “aha” moments…although it’s not usually as the only one dressed up at a non-costume party, but she got there and I think we can all agree that once we get to the point we are unstoppable!

Settling is never an option!

Side note: Did you know after the film had already completed shooting they decided people would want to know what happened to Elle after the trial so this is why her hair is more red than blonde! She was filming a period piece in London at the time! (I know way too much!)

At the end of the day you must always be your biggest fan!

Are there any characters that you can relate to? Tell me I’m not alone in my Elle Woods fandom!

Total Elle Woods fan girl here! I've seen the movie countless times as well as the Broadway musical – twice! I love her for all of the reasons that you mentioned, but also that she is proud to be both a serious lawyer and a girly girl…too frequently, some of those kinds of interests are dismissed as "frivolous" but Elle shows that you can still ace Harvard Law School while being the best-dressed in the class!

I love this movie and I love Elle Woods! I need to learn how to nicely tell people off…. instead of just sitting there and taking it (because I'm so tongue tied and HATE confrontation and am too worried about hurting feelings…. and the list can go on, ha!) It doesn't come up very often when I have to defend myself, but there have been times when I've totally regretted not saying anything at all! And… she would have a very good defense for Sophia Vergara's embryo custody debate (when she's in class and says that the guy doesn't have a case because he hasn't followed up with all sperm which in essence means he should be prosecuted for reckless abandonment. I'm totally all about praising fictional characters. Especially ones that are very women empowering. I could recite both of these movies and just love how they took the stereotypical "dumb blonde" and showed everyone that even the pretty girls can be smart, witty and take care of themselves. Too often pretty girls, girly girls, are associated with being "gold diggers," and a bunch more awful things I don't wish to say. Elle portrays a strong woman who realizes chasing a man isn't as important as seeing yourself excel. Excellent movie, excellent character! (:

Hahahaha! I love this! I think we all do this… connect with certain characters on screen. I really like the more modern movie Little Women (with Winona Ryder, Kristen Dundst, Susan Surandon, etc)… the character, Jo, is a very strong one who knows her passions (writing) and never falters from the importance of friendship/family/sisterhood. She isn't easily distracted by silly things, like boys, and follows her heart (like rejecting the marriage proposal from her male-friend, since she KNOWS they aren't mean to be). At the end of the day, she stays true to herself and watches her dreams come alive, while still falling in love with the man who IS right for HER. Have you seen it? It's my go-to when I want to feel empowered.

I always defended Elle Woods for more than a "dumb blonde" character because of her qualities like determined and goal setting. Many women are afraid to go after what they want, especially when others say they can't do it and I like that she was somebody that proved you could set your mind on something and work towards it – no matter what you're perception to other people was.
