Weekending| Getting Out of Town & Talking about Hair

Happy Monday friends! It was truly a relaxing weekend over here - celebrating my mother in laws birthday out of town and really disconnecting - well sort of, still shared some photos on instagram and of course snap chat! Rather than bore you with pictures of sitting by the pool, watching movies and eating lots of burgers, I thought I'd share a few hair products that I've been loving and one to steer clear of!
via

The Good//

Toni & Guy Heat Protectant Spray
Toni & Guy Heat Protectant Spray

I first got introduced to Toni & Guy products from my Glossy Boxes and I'm so happy that Target started carrying their products because I really have had great experiences with them. I don't normally blow dry my hair in the warmer months, but have needed to on a few occasions - this heat protectant spray is amazing. When I used it to blow dry my hair it left it incredibly silky and smooth. On the flip side when I used it to let my hair air dry and then give my hair a little curl I felt like it did a good job keeping the curl, which is usually a problem for me.

Toni & Guy Leave In Conditioner

I had never used a leave in conditioner before this product and I don't know what took me so long. I use it once or twice a week when I know I'll be doing something with my hair the next day so that it has a little extra product in there to hold. Same as the Heat Protectant Spray, it leaves my hair incredibly silky without being too heavy! I'm almost out and will be repurchasing!

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti Frizz Serum

After I ran out of my Garnier Fructis Morrocan Oil I wanted to try something new so I picked this serum up. First of all can we talk about the smell real quick - it's amazing! The fact that it actually does what it claims is just and added bonus because I love how it makes my hair feel! I think you're starting to sense that I like having my hair feel silky and smooth and this product delivers. You also can't beat a price for under $5!!!

The Bad//

Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

I got this on a whim because I really wanted to try the beachy waves hair style, but sadly this just fell flat for me - quite literally! Thankfully I only bought the travel size to test it out, but after following the directions to a T, my hair was left limpy and a little greasy - not the look I was going for at all! This is a hard pass for me! I've heard great things about other items in their product line, so if you've tried something that you've loved by Not Your Mother's - let me know!

On My Radar//

Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo

I've had this product on my radar ever since Kate sang it's praises a few months ago! It's a bit more than I would usually spend on shampoo, but using it only once a week makes me realize I'll have it for a while before needing to repurchase. Have you used the Sunday Shampoo? Did you like it?

  1. Glad you were able to disconnect and enjoy the weekend. I love all the hair tips, your quote is right. A good hair day makes my week! xoxo

  2. Ok beauty guru - I'm on the search for a gel, mousse, spray... something that I can put in my hair before I curl it that will help hold the curl. Any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I felt the same way about the texturizing spray, it did not make my hair look good and it dried it out not something I ever want to do. I do love their dry shampoo and have repurchased it many times.

  4. Definitely in the same boat with the Beachy Waves spray, it did nothing but make my hair feel dry/sticky. I haven't heard of the Sunday shampoo but now I may have to try it! Does the serum make your hair heavy/greasy?! I've been wondering if I need to get a serum but my hair is generally pretty think and can get oily so I was wondering! Have a great Monday!

  5. definitely going to have to try out the Toni & Guy stuff! I heard great things. And I had the same problem with the Not Your Mother's Spray. It left my hair feeling sticky too. Not a fan.

  8. I always love hearing what everyone is using hair wise! I will have to check out Tony & Guy - I've never heard of them! It's a shame about the seasalt spray - they are really hit or miss. You have to try the one from Lush - its $12, works well, and smells amazing!

  9. I'm sorry that sea spray didn't work out for you. I've never used it but I've always heard great things - bummer! Glad you had a relaxing weekend!

  10. Girl, I hear you on that texture spray! It makes mine feel stringy. I'll have to try out Tony & Guy! Happy Monday!

  11. I'm going to pick up some of that leave in conditioner next time I'm at the store, I think my hair could use some extra conditioning. Glad you had a good weekend with your family!

  12. I didn’t love the salt spray either… it made my hair feel so dried out at the bottoms but greasy on top. Intrigued by that Sunday shampoo!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have that serum as well and it lasts forever! I started by using way too much, but just a little goes a long, long way! Thanks for the share!

  14. I've never heard of the Toni and Guy products but your hair is absolutely gorgeous so I'll have to check out that heat protectant.

  15. Have never heard of the Toni & Guy products but they sound amazing! I have used that Bumble & Bumble shampoo before and I love their products! Definitely worth the splurge!

  17. I will have to grab that Garnier product and see how it works for me. Darn southern humidity is really killing my style this summer!!! I am not a fan of Not Your Mother Products. Their dry shampoo stinks and didn't really do much for me. I mean, it wasn't the worst I have tried...but there is much better out there! So I am not surprised to hear that the spray sucked too. I have wanted to grab a sea salt spray for awhile now and I just knew that one was probably going to be a let down. I heard the John Frieda one is good, but I can't find it anywhere.

  18. Loving the hair recs!!
So glad you had a good weekend!!

  19. glad your weekend was good! and great roundup of products. not surprised about that salt spray but i will tell you that i love love the bumble and bumble surf spray - both versions of it are phenom. use them almost daily! well at least the slight oil based one - leaves a little shine and a little texture. :) happy monday!

  21. Yay for a relaxing weekend, I cannot wait to have one of those later this week! And you know I'm going to tell you to go for the B&B Sunday Shampoo! Such an amazing product, and since you only use it once a week as a clarifying shampoo it'll last a long time ;-)

  22. Forever and always this will be my favorite read on Monday! I love the quote you put on today!
    Happy Monday!

  24. I love when you can spend the weekend "mostly" disconnected. I tried to do that this past weekend so I could spend more time with my family. Love your hair product choices, I might have to look into the heat spray since I just my iron everyday!

  28. I'm going to have to try all the 'good' products, always looking for something that makes my hair silky... I'm with you on the beach babe, I felt the same way about it, I'll give a couple squirts on the weekend though because I love the smell and it makes me feel like I'm at the beach :)

  29. i've wanted to try that shampoo! i actually do shampoo only on Sundays, hehe.

  30. I mean, in my world you can never have too many bottles of hair products sitting in your bathroom. Ill have to go through and research which of the ones you mentioned would be good on my hair. Yay!!

  40. I have heard great things recently about the T&G products so I will definitely be trying! I tried a few of the Not Your Mother's products and haven't liked them at all. I tried a shampoo and leave in conditioner/detangler and would definitely not repurchase either.

  41. Ah, hair. I just need to hire a stylist to do mine every morning! I swear when I'm in the salon they use product and it makes it seem amazing, but then when I buy them they are so hit or miss that I have a million half used bottles! Glad you had a fab weekend by the pool!!!

  42. I must check out this leave in conditioner! I'm always searching for products that don't make my hair feel heavy and this one sounds fabulous. 43. I received that Not Your Mother spray in a VoxBox and I had the same thing happen until I cut my hair short. Now that it's at my shoulders, it does hold really well. I really want to try that Garnier Fructis serum now.

    ReplyDelete
  44. ugh that sucks about the texturising spray, i won't be trying that! i love the garnier stuff, you're right - it does smell amazing! toni & guy is super super popular at home, i am so glad target is carrying their stuff now.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Salt sprays definitely work best for thin or short hair. I can image the weight of your long hair would make it feel greasy and flat! But they do wonders for me - gives me some actual texture over my very straight, fine blonde! The funny thing is, if I use a leave in conditioner or a shine product, I'm left with a flat, greasy mess, ha! Garnier DOES smell amazing, doesn't it? Like, all their stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Totally agree with that statement....it can make or break my day! I had the same experience with the sea salt spray!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh my that garner serum looks to be JUST what I need to fight the frizz from my dry-aired office!

  48. I've never used anything from Toni & Guy, but I love a good leave-in conditioner and that one sounds really nice! I have the Sunday Shampoo, and while I'll use it and it isn't bad, I probably won't buy it again because it's so expensive and I don't know that it makes THAT much of a difference for me. On the bright side I don't use it that often so it will probably last forever, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yay to three goods and only one bad! I've tried that sea spray and wasn't impressed either. Haven't found one I like in years. After reading the comments though and my short hair I might have to try it now, lol.

  83. My friend works as a colorist at the Toni & Guy studio here in Hoboken and I'm always meaning to try their products. Good to see a thumbs up!
I actually like the NYM sea salt spray, but it definitely took a while to get the hang of it for my hair. I've found that if I spray it only on damp hair from about mid-shaft down to the bottom, from a good distance (8" maybe?) away and then kind of toss my hair around with my fingers, it works well. It's an absolute nightmare on dry hair, I learned the hard way!
