April Favorites | Beauty

It's hard to believe that it's already the last day of April!! I'm sure we all feel like this year is just flying by and are ready for time to slow down just a little!! With that being said, I've been able to use a few products this month that I can not say enough great things about...but I'll try!

Jergens Body and Hand Cream Sunscreen

I'm a huge fan of all Jergens products so when they released their new BB Body Collection and I was picked by Influenster to test it out, I was really excited! The box came with a full sunscreen, a body lotion and two hand lotions, each had an SPF component to it! I love the entire collection, but I'd have to say my two favorite products are the hand lotion with SPF and the sunscreen with BB skin perfecting elements, because I found that it really made my skin more even! I love the hand lotion because I tend to get gel manicures pretty frequently and having the small travel size lotion/SPF with me allows me to protect my hands under the UV/LED lights.

Orly Fast Drying Top Coat

I have literally tried every quick dry top coat out there and while Seche Vite is still a favorite - Orly Sec 'N Dry is quickly becoming a holy grail product!! It really does dry super fast and I've found that it actually doesn't dry out quite as fast as other quick drying top coats. The other benefit I've found is that it's a great at keeping the chips at bay for an extra day or so.

Urban Decay Weightless Concealer

After hearing so many wonderful things about this concealer I had to pick it up!! I'm hooked!! I really loved the NARS concealer and will probably rotate between these two for a long time to come. It doesn't cake up and as it says in the name - feels completely weightless on!

Bare Minerals - Complexion Rescue

This was another product I had been wanting to try for a few months and when the Sephora sale hit I decided to pick it up!! I have been a devoted Garnier BB Cream user for the last 4 years and I think I may be converted!! I love how weightless this feels on the skin and gives the perfect amount of coverage and evens out skin imperfections. For me personally it lives up to the hype and I love that it has an SPF in it as well!

Essie Spring Polishes

A few of these might be from past seasons, but I've been rotating these three colors all month and will be doing so for the foreseeable future :)
Marshmallow - my favorite white polish that I've found - it's not too white and will take me into summer
French Affair - very similar to OPIs Mod About you - the prettiest pink!
Double Breasted Jacket - This is actually more pink than red, so it mixes to a vibrant berry color

What have you been loving in April?  Have you tried any of these products?

Mother's Day Gift Guide

For the first time in five years I will be spending mother's day with my mom since she'll be in Boston! I always send a card and gift, but it's going to be so much more fun now that I'll get to see her open the gift...the problem, she's rather tough to buy for!! I've rounded up a few things that I think she'd really like - you know since she doesn't give me any hints!!

1//A perfectly simple, but beautiful bangle with a "xoxo" message that will always be worn
2// My mom loves the Josie Maran line from Sephora and it's honestly the only thing she ever "asks" for!
3// I learned a long time ago never to get my mom a gift card for a manicure or pedicure, she loves to do it herself!! Gifting her a CND Vinylux nail polish would be right up her alley!
4// It's always easy when you know a woman's favorites - this Lancome mascara is just that - a holy grail product for my mom and sister!
5// While she's doing her nails, she could be waiting for this hair mask to work it's magic!! Seriously the Living Proof line is fantastic!
6// I think I get my love of lounging from my mama and she needs this throw to curl up with!
7// Funny thing about my mom (and most Russian mother's) when you come home, you need to get your slippers on and these UGG ones could not be more perfect!
8// Sunnies - she lives in Florida and Summer is coming - this is NEEDED!
9// When all else fails - a nice card and her favorite chocolates will do the trick! :)

To be perfectly honest, my mom just wants to spend time with us and a gift is not needed by certainly appreciated! Since she reads my blog - I actually didn't put the real gift on here!

What do you like to buy for your mom's or special woman in your life?

Weekending + A Giveaway

Hello lovelies!! How was everyone's weekend? This weekend we spent some time with friends, exploring the city and catching up on new + old movies!
Gary and I finally watched the Imitation Game on Friday night and it was really good!! Benedict Cumberbatch did such an excellent job playing the part and I have to say there was a lot more humor than either one of us was anticipating!
//I finally tried the side braid that I mentioned a few weeks back courtesy of Lauren Conrad
//We live in a city full of museums and took in the sights of the Mapparium. It's a three story stained-glass globe that gives you a 3D view of the world in 1935, when it was originally built! Such a cool experience and worth it if you ever come visit! It's also the only one of it's kind in the world!
//It finally started to look like spring and while these may not compare to the cherry blossoms in D.C. it certainly gives me hope that warm weather is coming!
//I convinced Gary to see the Age of Adelaine and it was amazing! I seriously didn't think I could like Blake Lively more, but she was so wonderful in the movie and makes me wish I had her wardrobe...and hair!
//Not pictured is the bingeathon we had watching Married At First Sight - thanks for getting me hooked Jen
//We had a lazy morning on Sunday at Tatte Bakery enjoying their pastries and the best latte's in Boston. Yes - that good!
//Took the long way home and stumbled upon some gorgeous houses...has anyone else ever wanted a regal front door?!
// Ended the night with the fantastic dinner that Paige shared last week that I knew I'd make on Sunday and it didn't disappoint!! If you want a light and easy meal definitely try it!
****************************************
And to get this week started on a great note - a giveaway!! Up for grabs is a $150 Nordstrom gift card, a Harrods tote bag from Marie's recent travels abroad and a Lilly Pulitzer Pink beach towel from the LillyforTarget craze! I'm so excited to be part of this giveaway with the lovely bloggers below! Nordstrom Giftcard Jill from Capri+Co || Amanda from Meet @ the Barre || Helene from heleneinbetween || Biana from Blovedboston || Pamela from Sequins & Sea Breezes || Rachel from Small Town & City Lights || Kate from Life as Kate || Kristen from See You In a Porridge || Kay from The Kay Times|| Marie from Twin Living Blog

Thankful & Inspired | The Boston Marathon

This past Monday thousands of runners lined up to start a race that takes place every year- the impact that some left behind on the course is truly amazing!! If you've never watched a Boston Marathon, it's not just the finish line that is impressive, it's the entire 26.2 mile stretch, lined with spectators cheering on every single runner to push them to the finish, it's a sight to be seen! After the elite runners pass by and claim their trophies, it's the rest of the runners that leave an impact on you! Some run to prove to themselves that they can do it, others run to raise awareness for a cause deeply rooted in them and some run for those who can't!
I wanted to share a few truly remarkable stories with you and hope it moves you the same way it moved me.

A Symbol of Inspiration

A 39-year old Venezuelan man with muscular dystrophy completed his 5th - yes you read that correctly, 5th marathon and finished almost 20 hours after the race started! I saw the story oddly enough while I was running on a treadmill with tears streaming down my face - the strength and courage of this man and the wisdom that he has been able to impart on so many people will forever be engraved in my mind. You can watch part of the video here

A Symbol of New Beginnings

Rebekah Gregory, Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor, ran the last 3.2 miles of the race and when she crossed the finish line it was nothing short of amazing! Just six months prior to the race, she had undergone another operation and to see her RUNNING alongside so many other's was amazing! You can see her crossing the finish line here and hear how this is the start to her new life!

A Symbol for Peace - Team MR8

You've probably seen the face of Martin Richard, who was one of the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon tragedy. Shortly after the marathon, a picture of Martin started circulating and gave new meaning to what we should all be focusing on!! With over $780,000 raised, a team of 73 runners participated in this years marathon!! And one of the best stories to come from the race is the engagement of two MR8 runners at the finish line!

After really processing the reasons why thousands of runners from across the world come to participate in this race - I'm just left feeling so thankful! Thankful for all the blessings in my life, particularly health which I tend to not think about daily.
I also want to leave this post off on fun and light note and wanted to share one of the best pictures I've ever taken and it happens to be of the winner Lelisa Desisa - I took this as he was jetting past our house...it was also picked up by CNN :)

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

Loving Lately | Spring Jackets

Although temps have steadily been going up in Boston, it's still jacket weather here. Thankfully we've put away our heavy winter coats and now opt for jean jackets, trench coats and other lighter options! I love the look of utility jackets and have one that is more of a rain jacket in a lighter purple/pink color to brighten up dreary April weather - but what I'm seriously missing in my closet is a classic trench! I thought I'd share my two favorite spring jacket trends and see what you all think should be my next purchase!!

Chic & Classic: The Trench

I'm quite stuck between the London Fog trench and the Guess one with the black accents...both I know would get a ton wear with the weather in Boston!

I love the functionality of utility jackets - it's equal parts stylish as it is functional! I think a lot of them are great for all types of weather and I'm really swooning over the blush hooded one from Forever 21 - and who doesn't love that price point?!

How do you transition from Fall to Spring?

Tasty Eats | Grilled Chicken Tacos with Avocado Salsa

I found these Grilled Chicken Tacos a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to try it out. I changed the recipe a bit, mostly because we don't have a grill, so we used our George Foreman, but you could also use a pan to grill the chicken up!
Grilled Chicken Tacos

What You'll Need:

4 boneless chicken breasts cut into small pieces
1 large onion
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 cup of mayo
Juice from 1 lime
1 teaspoon hot sauce (used buffalo sauce)
2 large avocados
3 green onions minced
1 tablespoon cilantro
2 finely diced tomatoes
8 flour tortillas

Directions:

+ In a large bowl combine ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon ground cumin and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Place the chicken pieces in the bowl to toss and coat with the seasoning.

+ In a small bowl mix together mayo, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 1 teaspoon of hot sauce, ¼ teaspoon of cumin, stir in water 1 teaspoon at a time until the mixture can be drizzled.
Grilled Chicken Tacos
+ In another bowl mix together the diced avocados, the finely diced tomatoes, minced green onions, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 1 tablespoon of fresh cilantro, ¼ teaspoon of hot sauce, olive oil & salt to taste
Grilled Chicken Tacos
+ This is where the recipe really differs since we didn't use skewers. You want to brush the chicken with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper on the grill or pan. Place the chopped onions on the grill or pan to heat them and cook them up a bit.

+ While the chicken is cooking heat up the tortillas either in a pan or in the oven.
Grilled Chicken Tacos
+Assemble your tacos, the mayo mixture is your sauce!
Grilled Chicken Tacos
We added cheese because no taco is complete without cheese! Enjoy!

What's your favorite taco recipe?

Monday Musings

Happy Monday everyone!! More importantly happy Marathon Monday in Boston!! Today the entire city is buzzing and we'll be cheering on the 36,000 amazing runners participating!! I'm happy to be working from home today and seeing all the runners right outside my front door! This weekend was equal parts relaxing as it was fun!
We recently got into a new show, a Netflix original called Bloodline. It's pretty different, but weirdly keeps you interested. You can see a trailer for it and maybe it can help explain why we spent a better part of our Friday night watching it!
Saturday, six of us went and caught our first Red Sox game of the season! My friends husband was visiting from Hawaii (fingers crossed he picks Boston for his MBA) and we thought it would be fun to catch a game!
We made it to the end of the 8th inning and had to leave because it was freezing!!! What happened to the almost 70 degrees we were all anticipating?!
Our Sunday was low key and we spent the majority of the day with my cousin and her daughter at my sister's house!! I had to document my second day curls...because I hadn't curled my hair pretty much all winter!
After an epic trip to Target and Home Goods I spent the rest of the afternoon outside finishing my InStyle and made the salad I posted about a few weeks ago! Seriously - you have to try the salad, it's phenomenal and so fresh! Finished the weekend watching the ACM Awards!
How cute did Reese Witherspoon look and I can't even get over my favorite couple, Eric and Jessie Decker!
I felt the above quote was very fitting seeing that it seemed like everyone went crazy over Lilly yesterday!! Did you score anything from the launch? Hope you all have a great start to the week and link up below to share your weekends!!!
