January Wellness & Mantras

The start of a new year brings a lot of excitement to us all- fresh start, new planners (clearly I'm a stationary lover) and gearing up for a year full of new opportunities, but above all else it gives us the opportunity to refresh! Now that we are in the second week of 2016, I've decided that instead of resolutions, it's going to be the year of taking care of me. Over the last month my eye has started to twitch and being in tune with myself, that means I'm stressed- it also allows for a new pet-name "crazy-eyed Biana" courtesy of Gary! It's a broad notion-taking care of me, but I want to be more mindful of my body, my head & my overall health! I realize that this is more about a lifestyle and making sure I treat myself great every single day - so this month with the help of Teavana, I've committed to a refresh.
Wellness Teas from Teavana
Teavana has launched their wellness line of teas - all aimed to help you achieve the goals you've set this year! In order to get my January off to a great start I chose to start each day with Rev Up - this helps to support a healthy metabolism and gives me the caffeine I need in the morning - especially on Monday's!
I call this my Teavana To-Go - it only takes me three minutes in the morning to brew the tea so it's perfect for when I'm getting ready to head to work! Also it's nice to drink hot tea in the morning since it's so cold outside!
Wellness Teas by Teavana
I'm also really loving Purify because it's aimed at giving you glowing skin - the caffeine level on this is at a 1 - so I try to drink it in the middle of the day so that I'm not up all night, which would sort of defeat the purpose of being mindful of my body!
Wellness Teas from Teavana
At night I've started to really unwind. I light a candle, start sipping on my sleepy time tea (seriously drink a lot of tea over here) and start writing! It varies day to day with what I write about - sometimes lists, sometimes dreams, but most of the time moments in the day I want to remember! While the blog is great for the big picture, these notes are memories that aren't snapped with a phone or camera.
So with all that being said - I've decided to start this year getting outside of my comfort zone and trying something new - meditation! I've said for the longest time that I am unable to calm my mind enough to stay still and meditate - but I'm willing to try!

What are your plans for starting this year out with a refresh? Do you like to drink tea in the mornings or at night?
Thank you to Teavana for sponsoring this post.

  1. I like green or black tea during the day and wellness or rose tea at night. Meditating is a great practice, so relaxing and zen zoning, I know you'll enjoy your sessions :)!

  2. Ah the dreaded eye twitch...I have had that happen to me way too many times! Definitely a sign for stress with me as well. These teas sound perfect. I never have really liked tea, but I know it is so good for you. Maybe I will give it a go one of these days. Good luck with the meditating!

  3. I love Tevana and have always been a big green tea drinker. I'm featuring a couple other teas for my Friday favorites this week as the cold outside has brought on more tea drinking. I love the mantra and when women focus on taking care of themselves....so important!! Proud of you!!

  4. I would recommend trying yoga if you're interested in mediation. It's a great workout but it also gives me 90 minutes of me time. I can clear out all of the nonsense going on in my life and just focus on myself.

  5. I love that you're making these decisions for yourself! Ever since we went on our food tour in Chicago this summer I've been curious about tea--this may be what I needed to kick my butt into gear with that! :)
I also have been wanting to try meditation and did so over Winter Break--it was awesome! I just haven't carved out that time every day since going back to work which is the big "shame on me" part of it all.
I'm sure you're well on your way to not being 'crazy-eyed Biana' hahah

  6. I've never really been a big tea drinker, but these look really good and I know that tea has some wonderful benefits. I will have to give it a try!

  7. I love Teavana teas...they are so good! Usually I drink coffee first thing in the morning and then switch to tea in the afternoon/evening! I think this year I want to get out of my comfort zone and try yoga. I would love to do something that helps me feel more in shape, while also helping me to relax and calm my mind.

  8. That's great you're prioritizing your health! I've had the twitchy eye before, for me it's always a sign I'm over-exhausted. I'm not a big tea drinker but these all sound good!

  9. My sister in law just gave me a travel tea mug and I’m obsessed! These flavors all sound delicious!

  10. I've been drinking tea so much more now that I'm pregnant and the smell of coffee just turns me off sometimes (which is so sad). But I love trying new ones so that Rev one sounds perfect!

  11. I have always been a coffee drinker but have been wanting to incorporate more tea, so I'll have to give Teavana a try! I'll be curious to hear what you think of meditation...I've heard it has such great benefits but I'm not sure I would be able to commit to it!

  12. Love green tea! As much as I love my coffee I enjoy not only the taste but the health benefits from green tea. LOL at Gary's pet name for you, but some meditation each day with tea will help calm you. Twitchy eyes are no fun :-P

  26. I like the tazo zen tea with a little bit of honey and lemon, just calms me down and warms me up... if tea isn't within reach, I heat up some water and lemon and love it! Also helps me get to my daily water requirements... still struggling with this!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I swear. There's nothing better than a good cup of tea. Tazo is the best.

  29. Teavanna used to have a cafe a few doors down from work, but they closed it. :-( I always enjoyed their teas though!! If you haven't already, check out David's Tea. They are my absolute favorite. :-)

  30. I've been trying to drink more tea as well, especially at night as a way to wind down. And yes, I think eye twitching can be a sign of stress so it's great you're looking for ways to stay mellow! (And avoid Gary's new nickname, lol!)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would also recommend doing yoga if you're interested in meditation. I used to be religious about doing it and it really made your brain stop thinking about everything else and meditate/shift focus to your inner body. It felt so good! Let us know how the meditation goes though!

  32. I have such a habit of having green tea with honey & lemon every night now...
I am so intrigued by that Rev-Up tea! I've got to check it out. I love a good booster that is healthier then other ways to wake up.

  33. The new wellness teas sound fabulous! I'm not a huge tea drinker but I think the new year is a great time to give something new a try, so I will have to take a look at these!

  36. Tea in the morning sounds perfect especially with this cold weather. I actually much prefer tea to coffee and it's healthier for you. Meditation sounds like a great idea! I think it will be calming for your mind and soul.

  37. You go Crazy Eye! Seriously though, self care is so important and we usually make it the last thing on our list.

  38. I get the eye twitch often too. No bueno. Glad you're able to focus on yourself and take care of you. A good tea definitely helps that. :)

  43. Yes! I love tea too! I need Teavana to sponsor some posts for me :-p I LOVE my Tumbler and the teas I recently bought. I need to try the wellness ones out!

  44. Love tea and teavanna is such a good one! A little pricey for me for every day tea but I like to treat myself now and again to throw it in my regular mix. As for the eye twitching, I used to have that issue so bad. I thought it was stress and after lots of blood work we found out I was really low on vitamin B. Now that I am back to normal levels, it rarely happens. You might want to get that checked.

  45. Calming the mind is SO SO hard, especially for people who have a lot of mind clutter / mind chatter. I have found that guided meditations work the best for me. It makes it so that the focus is on the person who created the meditation, rather than all the stuff that pops in my head while I am trying to be mindful.

    ReplyDelete
  46. That is so funny about your eye twitching... mine does that sometimes, too! I never knew that it meant that I was stressed, but that does make sense since I'm stressed a lot. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love tea! I drink English tea blends & love them :) I can drink it anytime during the day but it's something I typically do with my grandmother, it's our tradition! I always say I couldn't handle meditation either but I've heard that it's wonderful. I'll see what you think & then maybe I'll give it a try!

  52. I LOVE TEAVANNA! Actually, I'm totally drinking a cup of their Dosha Chai as we speak, or type. haha. A friend got me hooked on Teavanna years ago and I have been since! On a side note, I also have that Pink Peony candle at home in my bathroom. (:

  53. I love this post and your experiment with meditation so much! One of my YTT classmates made the perfect analogy the other day in class: Imagine your mind is like a beach. Meditation isn't about clearing the mind—not yet anyway, because that's not really a thing that most people can do. Instead, observe your thoughts in your quiet space. So imagine that beach and the thoughts that come to you are like writing in the sand. Then the waves come and wash those thoughts away. You're not forcing them out; you're just not inviting them to stay while you're meditating. Good luck and enjoy!

  54. Love this! I need to pick up some of this purifying tea because my skin needs major help right now! I'm more of a morning tea drinker, mostly because I'll have to pee all night if I drink too much before bed lol!

  55. I love that first saying in the beginning of the post because it's 100% true! Too many times people want to blame their unhappiness on others instead of trying to make it better themselves. I love your idea of trying to refresh for the start of the year and even trying meditation. That sounds like the perfect way to start with a clean slate!
