I love to sleep! That moment of getting into bed after a long day is quite possibly one of the best feelings out there. Please tell me I'm not the only one that feels this pressure release as soon as you lay down!! When Gary and I decided that we were going to move, the first item we wanted to purchase was a new bed - so putting it right out there, this is not a sponsored post! We had gone to a few mattress stores to test out some beds, but they were really expensive, even with the promotions and deals that stores were offering, so I set out to find the new-ish trend if you will, of boxed mattresses that I had seen on a few other blogs!
I came across Tuft & Needle, watched a youtube video - read about a two dozen reviews and decided this was the one that we were going to get. We did price comparisons as well and while it wasn't the cheapest, it was certainly not the most expensive either. A few people asked how we could buy a mattress without even testing it out, but they have a great return policy (100 night sleep trial), free shipping and a 10 year warranty- so it was a no-brainer. For me personally, buying a boxed mattress made the move extremely easy!! We ordered it on a Sunday night and by Tuesday it was already delivered - a very heavy delivery- but delivered nonetheless!
If you follow me on snapchat (@blovedboston) then you saw the unboxing and unrolling of the mattress which was incredibly easy!! It comes in two separate vacuum sealed bags - after cutting the first layer, unrolling it to fit the bed you cut the second layer and it immediately starts to expand. In a matter of 4-5 minutes you have a new mattress on your bed!
So now that I've talked about the ease of purchasing and set up, let's talk about sleep! I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have slept like a rock for the last 3 weeks! I'm talking fall asleep in one position and wake up in the morning in the same position! That my friends, never happens!! When Gary shifts in the middle of the night, or vice versa, neither one of us can feel the other person! Sure if one of us were to dive into bed and TRY our hardest to move then yes of course you would feel the movement, but those slight middle of the night movements are not felt at all! I'm not a mattress expert, so I don't want to get into that detail, but I will say that it's the perfect mix of firm and soft - it's like 50/50 on the scale of what you want it to be, or at least what we were looking for!
Now a great mattress absolutely goes a long way to getting a good night's sleep, but I've also made some changes in terms of my nightly routine and I think that's also helping with feeling well rested!
||I said "bye bye" to the television in our bedroom. Gary was all for this, but I wasn't sure how I would feel. It's been nice getting into bed and having 15 - 20 to catch up on reading, actually talk to Gary about life things & disconnect from the screen...well with the exception of my iPad that I read on, but that makes me sleepy so it's fine!
|| This one is recent, since the update to iOS 10 on the new iPhone. I set a bedtime on my phone. Basically the new feature allows you to tell your phone how many hours a night of sleep you want to get (for me it's 7.5) and your phone will create an alert letting you know that it's time to get ready for bed if you hope to get X amount of hours for the optimal amount of sleep!
|| Sometimes sleep just wont come because my brain simply wont shut off, on those nights I take gummy melatonin. It's also great when I travel to different time zones and need to adjust quicker without the jet lag!
Overall thoughts ||
We could not be happier with our purchase! The first few nights we slept on it we attributed the great sleep to being truly exhausted from the move, but we're 3 weeks in and that great sleep feeling has not subsided. It's also amazing what a great mattress will do for your back - mine was a little out of whack after sleeping on our last mattress for 7 years, but wouldn't you know - lower back pain is gone! So if you're still wondering whether I'm happy with the Tuft & Needle mattress - the answer is YES and I would 100% order it again tomorrow!
It's crazy to me how as kids we didn't want to go to sleep, we didn't want to nap but as adults one of the main things on my mind is when I can get back into bed for sleep!! Would you ever order a mattress online? What are some of your sleep tricks?!
