Five Fun Valentine’s Date Ideas

Hello from snowy Boston friends! I didn’t hate having a snow day yesterday – something about getting to work from home makes me super productive! Since Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday this year I figured a lot of people would be celebrating this weekend or keeping it a bit more low key so I thought it would be fun to share a few date ideas that you could enjoy!

Get these Love Icon gummies from Anthropologie

1. Brunch instead of dinner

Going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day is such a nightmare – overpriced meals & nothing romantic with tons of people around you. A couple of years ago Gary and I decided to forgo the usual dinner for a super fun brunch and it was so much more enjoyable!! You get to enjoy a leisurely brunch with a few cocktails if you’d like. If you’re looking for a few great brunch spots in Boston I highly recommend Bostonia Public House and Brownestone.

2. Make dinner at home

Another tradition we have is making something fancy for dinner on Valentine’s Day and cooking together. Even though it’s on a Tuesday this year, we’ll still be making something together, keeping the TV off & just talking!

3. A little game night

If you (and when I say you, I mean your significant other) have a gaming console like a PlayStation or xbox – download a few games that you can play without having to leave the house. Maybe it’s a little corny, but you could put wagers on the games – winner get’s to choose the next movie! We have fruit ninja & bowling which believe it or not are both really fun and great workouts!! You’ll wake up the next morning really confused why your arms are sore!

4.  DIY the gift

I’m a huge Newlyweds fan – you remember the show with Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson right? Well I love the episode where they institute a $20 maximum spending challenge for a valentine’s day DIY. Gary and I actually don’t gift each other anything for valentine’s day and haven’t since we’ve been married – I love the idea of making my own card or even trying to get creative with what I can make for him with a $20 limit!

5. Bar Crawl, but make it romantic

We actually did a version of this with South End Wine Tour and had a blast! What you could do is revisit all the restaurants / bars that you’ve been to during your relationship. For instance if I were planning ours I’d start with Clery’s where we had our first date, Met Bar where we celebrated our engagement, we’d make a stop at Top of the Hub where we celebrated my 25th birthday right before we got married, and finish the night off at The Palmwhere we celebrated Gary finishing his master’s!

What do you have planned for Valentine’s Day – do you celebrate or do you keep it low key? Hope you have a great weekend!

All these are such great ideas. Brunch is a favorite and I can definitely see that being not as busy as dinner which is a definite win. I LOVE doing a bar crawl that revisits some of your favorite places that have significant meaning. Might have to do that one just because!

Just going out to dinner can be a bit boring, but these ideas are great for keeping Valentine's Day interesting and fun. We are keeping it low key this year for sure.

We aren't big Valentine's Day people ever especially since our Anniversary is a few days after, we really just celebrate that 😉 I like your wine tour idea!

These are all great, simple ideas! We are going to a concert this year, that just happened to fall on VDay, but other than that I plan to make a fancy dinner at home for Jason, for when he gets home from studying. The first year we were dating, he booked a super fancy dinner out, but the only time left was 5pm, so we ate super early and the food wasn't worth the pricetag, so ever since then, I'd rather make something at home. I like the video game idea…I can't even attempt to play half of the games he has for his XBox, but I liked your suggestions!

Great ideas! I especially love brunch rather than a crowded restaurant for dinner! We always either celebrate a day or two early or at home, because you are so right, there's nothing romantic about going out with a ton of people around you in overcrowded restaurants that night. Wishing you a fantastic Valentine's Day next week! xo – Brenda // ChattingOverChocolate.com

These are great ideas, Biana! We normally go out for dinner for Valentine's Day and we are again this year, but my husband is actually cooking dinner for me on Sunday! I'm super excited because I cook almost every night so this is going to be a real treat haha! I hope the snow has finally stopped — I cannot believe how much you got!! Have a great weekend!

I love the idea of brunch, we've never done that before! We've either dined out or Eddie will typically make us a romantic dinner. I'm the one who does most of the cooking in the house, since he gets home so late from work and I prefer cooking over ordering out. So, when there's a holiday, specifically Christmas and Valentine's Day, he takes over, which is so nice. Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead!

Brunch sounds heavenly especially as we have a totally un-romantic Tuesday lined up (Mike has to go to court to testify against a guy who hit him [car accident, not physical altercation]) and I have to teach til 10pm. BLEH!!! But brunch… now that's something I can get behind!!! Hope you're all cozy and warm! XOXO, R

How cute are those gummies?! We're "celebrating" V-day tomorrow but it's more like an outing to the theme parks with some music and dinner in there. Nothing particularly romantic but a full day of spending time together I think is a gift in itself.
