Weekending | Portland & Bloggers Day Out

Happy Monday friends! I feel like we packed a week’s worth of fun into 48 hours and it all started with a trip to Portland, Maine! Getting right into the picture heavy recap – just warning now, you might get hungry!! Saturday morning, Gary & I made the two hour drive to Portland, ME for a day of exploring with some of his college friends. The agenda was packed with breweries & distilleries – really something for everyone’s palette. It also may have been a mini food tour of the city as well!

places to eat in portland, where to eat in maine, best donuts to eat, potato donut

Started with a trip to the famous Holy Donut. These donuts are made out of potatoes – yes you read that correctly potatoes. The idea behind the donut is wanting that delicious treat, but not wanting to carb or sugar load on them – thus the potato donut was born! I’ll be 100% honest, it’s not for everyone – like myself, doesn’t mean it didn’t taste good – just not something I would crave. Gary on the other hand loved them!

We met up with the group at the Portland Pie Company – known as the best pizza in Portland! They have 4 different dough flavors that you can choose from and our garlic buffalo chicken pizza didn’t disappoint! After the carb loading we headed to our first stop – Maine Craft Distilling

This may have been my favorite stop because you get to sample everything for free!! My favorite was the Blueberry Moonshine – they then created a cocktail for you ($8 cost) and the “Lemonshione” was so tasty it went down a little too quickly!!

After Maine Craft we headed over to Urban Farm Fermentory which had such a fun atmosphere. Gary and I split a flight  which was only $7 – he enjoyed the beer options while I stuck to the cider. What I loved about Urban Farm was that you didn’t just have to sit around the tasting bar, you could actually do other stuff – like play corn hole!! Most fun stop of the day for sure!

I was most looking forward to Maine Mead Works – learned that mead is actually the oldest form of fermenting beverages. This was the best bang for your buck as far as tours go – for $7 you were able to try 7 of their most popular meads! We also went to Shipyard Brewery but as I mentioned I don’t drink beer, so I skipped out on the tasting and played Cards Against Humanity instead!!

I really wanted to go to Eventide for dinner for their amazing lobster rolls, but their wait was way too long & I also learned they were opening a location in Boston so we opted for Boone’s Fish House with a section dedicated to lobster alone – you know I was in heaven!! We called it a day after dinner because the weather wasn’t what we had really hoped for, but we’ll be heading back to Portland sometime soon to explore some of the cute stores and more of the restaurants!! I think a quick weekend getaway is in our future!!

Sunday was spent exploring MarketStreet at Lynnfield with some amazing bloggers!! We were treated to an incredible morning and afternoon getting to know some of the stores, both local and international as well as a lot of hand’s on tutorials!! Some of the highlights for me included a brunch at Davio’s Restaurant, exploring the new Amazon Bookstore, checking out one of the first FatFacestores in America & learning how to make pizza at California Pizza Kitchen – throwing dough in the air and everything!! Also, DAVIDsTEAspring / summer collection is so pretty – I wanted all the tea!

It was such a jam packed weekend that by the time Sunday at 6:00 pm rolled around I was exhausted!! Thankfully being tired from having too much fun is never a bad thing!! Here’s hoping for a less eventful week & getting lots of things off the to do list!! How was your weekend? Link up below to share!!

I was treated to a complimentary afternoon at MarketStreet in exchange for a blog post. All opinions are my own.

I've heard SO much about Portland's food scene that it's really the only reason I want to visit, haha. I've never heard of the Holy Donut though, that's so interesting that they make it with potatoes. Does it taste heavy?! I'd assume it wouldn't be as light and airy as regular donuts, the photos you've shared look intriguing though and I'd definitely want to try just for the experience. You know, having grown up in NYC, I've never been to a pizza place that has flavored dough, ever!!! That sounds so good!!! Oh, I had lobster mac & cheese on Saturday night and I thought of you, haha. I'm sure you were in pure heaven with that lobster section! Thanks for sharing, girlie, and I hope you have a great week ahead!
