Cape Cod Vacation | Brewster Guide

When things started to open back up in Massachusetts, we were itching for something new to see and a change of scenery. We didn’t want to go far and really have never ventured to the Cape for more than a day, so we thought it would be the best escape. I looked through AirBnB, a few hotels and resorts and found Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster, MA.  I’m going to be sharing a post on traveling during COVID and that’s where I’ll share what we did to feel safe and precautions we took. Fair warning: lots of photos – especially of food!

We stayed in one of their villas, which is about 3 minutes away from the main mansion property. The downside to not staying on the mansion side is that you don’t have access to their private beach – due to COVID restrictions they had to limit how many people would be allowed at one time. With that being said, the Cape is literally all shore & beach so there is no shortage of beaches to go to, but you will have to get a day pass which is $20.

King size bed was a must because you never know how vacation sleep with a toddler will go!

Ocean Edge Resort has three pools, a playground, golf course and a few dining options on site, just to name a few of the amenities that they offer. I would say if you’re traveling as a family – the Villas are the best bang for your buck and it’s so much more comfortable to have a room that you can put the baby down in and then come out and still enjoy your evening with TV and wine, you really can’t do that in hotel rooms unless it’s a big suite. We also brought enough with us so that we could enjoy breakfast in the room and plenty of snacks! I was excited to see it had a full kitchen except for an oven, which I wouldn’t need anyway!

Where to Eat ||

There was plenty to choose from in terms of eateries in Brewster – from on the property to no more than 10 minutes from the hotel. Even though the current guidelines allow for indoor dining, we only ate outside and the extra space to have Sophia run around if need be was amazing. Since we had a kitchen we did eat our breakfasts there and had one dinner at the villa, but other than that we did eat out most meals.

Lynx Tavern (open to the public but at Ocean Edge Resort) || We ate there as soon as we arrived and the only downside was that the service is incredibly slow even though there were only two other tables there. We had the fried oysters which were delicious, but the fish and chips were a little less fish and a little more batter than I would have liked, but still good.

JT’s Cape Cod || A must for lobster rolls!

Snowy Owl Coffee || Be prepared for a wait, but the coffee is delicious

Guapos Tortilla Shack || Really delicious frozen margaritas!

Eat Cake for Breakfast || The cutest bakery with the most delicious scones and treats!

Stone L’oven Pizza || We did takeout and brought it back to eat at the Villa. Really good pizza and salad.

Cafe Alfresco || We stopped here on our way to Chatham and got Sophia a muffin, which she devoured and Gary was craving a breakfast burrito – which he also devoured. I went for the coffee and was very happy! They have some outdoor seating and beautiful garden next door you can sit at.

Cobies || Cobies is a staple in Brewster and really known for their ice cream – which was so good. Mostly fried foods, but not too heavy. We had a great dinner outside right before the crowds picked up!

Ocean Terrace || On our last morning we ate at Ocean Edge Terrace restaurant and it was great. Again, very spacious even though there were other diners there. I’m not sure if you have to be a guest of the resort to eat there, but I don’t think that’s the case.

What To Do ||

I’m sure you’re wondering – did they do anything besides eat? Very valid question and the answer is, barely! We had a couple of day trips, which I have separate posts on but in terms of what we did while in Brewster it was really the pool, the beach and a little stint at a state park. This is truly an outdoor relaxing vacation, so I was happy that we weren’t stuck trying to see and do things! If Sophia was a bit older we probably would have done mini golf.

As I mentioned, if you are going to the beach, you do have to purchase a day pass which is $20. We went to Crosby Landing Beach which was beautiful. Socially distancing on a beach was not hard for us and we wore masks while walking to our spot.

We also briefly went to Nickerson State Park before we left for home and unfortunately it started raining almost immediately after we got there. They have beaches, trails and you can even camp there. If we had more time I would have loved to go back. You pay $8 to go in.

I know that was a lot, but for one, I wanted to recap / relive a really great family vacation. I also wanted to share some of the great things we did and ate while we were there. It was relaxing – well as relaxing as a vacation with an almost two year old could be and one we would 100% do again yearly if given the chance!

    I remember you and Gary traveling so much before having Sophia. It's so awesome to see that you're instilling that in her by continuing to do so with her. She's going to love to travel! I've never visited The Cape before, though I have heard such great things. It sounds a lot like Jersey Shore with you describing it as pretty much sea and shore. I'd love to take the girls, so I look forward to reading your post on what you did exactly when it came to deciding this is the place you wanted to stay and what precautions you took. I hope you're having a great week so far, girl!

    XO,

    It looks like the perfect family holiday destination! All the fresh fish on the NE coast of the US always looks sooo good. Does Sophia give it a try too? And it is just 11:15 as I read here but I could drink one of the frozen margaritas RIGHT NOW. If you self cater at this resort are there plenty of local shops to buy groceries btw?
