January Wellness & Mantras

The start of a new year brings a lot of excitement to us all- fresh start, new planners (clearly I’m a stationary lover) and gearing up for a year full of new opportunities, but above all else it gives us the opportunity to refresh! Now that we are in the second week of 2016, I’ve decided that instead of resolutions, it’s going to be the year of taking care of me. Over the last month my eye has started to twitch and being in tune with myself, that means I’m stressed- it also allows for a new pet-name “crazy-eyed Biana” courtesy of Gary! It’s a broad notion-taking care of me, but I want to be more mindful of my body, my head & my overall health! I realize that this is more about a lifestyle and making sure I treat myself great every single day – so this month with the help of Teavana, I’ve committed to a refresh.

Wellness Teas from Teavana

Teavana has launched their wellness line of teas – all aimed to help you achieve the goals you’ve set this year! In order to get my January off to a great start I chose to start each day with Rev Up – this helps to support a healthy metabolism and gives me the caffeine I need in the morning – especially on Monday’s!

I call this my Teavana To-Go – it only takes me three minutes in the morning to brew the tea so it’s perfect for when I’m getting ready to head to work! Also it’s nice to drink hot tea in the morning since it’s so cold outside!

Wellness Teas by Teavana

I’m also really loving Purify because it’s aimed at giving you glowing skin – the caffeine level on this is at a 1 – so I try to drink it in the middle of the day so that I’m not up all night, which would sort of defeat the purpose of being mindful of my body!

Wellness Teas from Teavana

At night I’ve started to really unwind. I light a candle, start sipping on my sleepy time tea (seriously drink a lot of tea over here) and start writing! It varies day to day with what I write about – sometimes lists, sometimes dreams, but most of the time moments in the day I want to remember! While the blog is great for the big picture, these notes are memories that aren’t snapped with a phone or camera.

via

So with all that being said – I’ve decided to start this year getting outside of my comfort zone and trying something new – meditation! I’ve said for the longest time that I am unable to calm my mind enough to stay still and meditate – but I’m willing to try!

What are your plans for starting this year out with a refresh? Do you like to drink tea in the mornings or at night?

Thank you to Teavana for sponsoring this post.

I like green or black tea during the day and wellness or rose tea at night. Meditating is a great practice, so relaxing and zen zoning, I know you'll enjoy your sessions :)!

Ah the dreaded eye twitch…I have had that happen to me way too many times! Definitely a sign for stress with me as well. These teas sound perfect. I never have really liked tea, but I know it is so good for you. Maybe I will give it a go one of these days. Good luck with the meditating!

I love Tevana and have always been a big green tea drinker. I'm featuring a couple other teas for my Friday favorites this week as the cold outside has brought on more tea drinking. I love the mantra and when women focus on taking care of themselves….so important!! Proud of you!!

I would recommend trying yoga if you're interested in mediation. It's a great workout but it also gives me 90 minutes of me time. I can clear out all of the nonsense going on in my life and just focus on myself.

I love that you're making these decisions for yourself! Ever since we went on our food tour in Chicago this summer I've been curious about tea–this may be what I needed to kick my butt into gear with that! πŸ™‚
I also have been wanting to try meditation and did so over Winter Break–it was awesome! I just haven't carved out that time every day since going back to work which is the big "shame on me" part of it all.
I'm sure you're well on your way to not being 'crazy-eyed Biana' hahah

I love Teavana teas…they are so good! Usually I drink coffee first thing in the morning and then switch to tea in the afternoon/evening! I think this year I want to get out of my comfort zone and try yoga. I would love to do something that helps me feel more in shape, while also helping me to relax and calm my mind.

Love tea and teavanna is such a good one! A little pricey for me for every day tea but I like to treat myself now and again to throw it in my regular mix. As for the eye twitching, I used to have that issue so bad. I thought it was stress and after lots of blood work we found out I was really low on vitamin B. Now that I am back to normal levels, it rarely happens. You might want to get that checked.

Calming the mind is SO SO hard, especially for people who have a lot of mind clutter / mind chatter. I have found that guided meditations work the best for me. It makes it so that the focus is on the person who created the meditation, rather than all the stuff that pops in my head while I am trying to be mindful.

I love this post and your experiment with meditation so much! One of my YTT classmates made the perfect analogy the other day in class: Imagine your mind is like a beach. Meditation isn't about clearing the mindβ€”not yet anyway, because that's not really a thing that most people can do. Instead, observe your thoughts in your quiet space. So imagine that beach and the thoughts that come to you are like writing in the sand. Then the waves come and wash those thoughts away. You're not forcing them out; you're just not inviting them to stay while you're meditating. Good luck and enjoy!
