Mother and Daughter Weekend in Charleston

Happy Monday friends! This weekend I had a little girls getaway to Charleston. My sister and I decided to do something big for my mom’s birthday and thought a trip somewhere she’s never been would be perfect! This was my third time in the Holy City and it’s hands down my favorite US city to visit! So much has changed since the last time I was here, but one constant is the incredible food scene! Here’s a run down of what to do, see and eat if you happen to take a trip to Charleston!

Eat & Drink ||

I think Charleston may just have some of the best restaurants in the country! There were some tried and true favorites I had to share with my sister and mom, but I was happy to check a few new places out as well.

Virginia’s on King was our first stop since our room wasn’t ready and the crab cake sandwich with fries was delicious. While the services left a lot to be desired, the food was really good so it made up for it.

The Skinny Dip Charleston was a nice little surprise. It’s a boutique on the bottom and then upstairs is a fun little oasis rooftop wine bar. A swing, fun photo backdrop – this is a great little pit stop when you need a break from shopping!

Indaco has been on my list of restaurants to try for a few years now and it was amazing! The burrata was an explosion of unexpected flavors with sweet potatoes, hazelnuts and procuitto melting in your mouth. We also split two different types of pasta – the black spaghetti with shrimp and the triangoli. You leave feeling perfect satiated, not stuffed!

Poogan’s Porch is somewhere I knew I wanted to take them to – there has not been one trip that I haven’t eaten here and it’s always so tasty! The three of us each ordered the shrimp and crab louie salad – so tasty and light enough that you can keep sightseeing after lunch!

Two reasons we went to Monza– we got lazy and couldn’t find a reservation for three anywhere else and we were really craving pizza! So glad we went because the Volpini and Enzo pizza’s were perfect for three people to split! It was casual and a great spot after a full day of sightseeing.

Hotel Bennett recently opened and inside is the most beautiful champagne bar I have ever laid my eyes on. It’s pricey, but you go there for the ambiance, elegance and of course pictures! Camellia’s is absolutely a must see!

Things to do ||

One must if you’re visiting Charleston is a carriage ride through the city. I compare it to a duck boat experience in Boston. It helps you see different parts of the city, but one thing to note is that the carriage companies don’t have the same route every time. They are assigned the route at the start of the tour and unfortunately this time we didn’t get the best one, but we saw some beautiful homes which is always nice!

Rainbow Row & The Pineapple Fountain at the waterfront are close to one another and probably the first two things on your Charleston agenda!

We decided that a trip to Magnolia Plantation needed to happen. We’re not big “tour” people so we took an Uber there and back (about 25 minutes) and took in the beauty of the plantation! While you could certainly spent a good portion of the day there, after about 2.5 hours we were ready to go back into the city.

The gardens were our favorite and it was the perfect time of year to go since everything was in bloom.  There’s a petting zoo with more peacocks than I’ve ever seen in my life & the tour of the house, while interesting probably could have been skipped, but interesting nonetheless.

Tons of walking, too many selfies to share, lots of girl time and plenty of laughs – we had the best weekend and spent quality time together which we rarely get uninterrupted! These moments & memories are amazing and I’m so glad that I got to share it with my two best friends! I’m already planning my next trip back!

    Happy Birthday to your mom! That’s beautiful that you all had a little weeekend with just the three of you! I know she must’ve loved that. Now as a soon to be mom of two girls, I sometimes think of what things will be like in the future and I know that would make me so happy to still have my girls so close to me, even though they’re grown and have their own little families. I’ve heard such amazing things about Charleston, but haven’t technically visited. We had a layover when vacationing in heading to Cozumel, Mexico so believe. I trust your foodie judgement and will have to make plans to visit someday! Thanks for sharing, my friend, and I hope you have a great week ahead!

    Xo,
