Fall Fun: Apple & Pumpkin Picking at Boston Hill Farm

My absolute favorite fall activity is going apple & pumpkin picking. It wasn’t something I grew up doing in Florida, but since living in Boston we have gone every single year! Going with Sophia now is so much fun – she absolutely understands the entire picking process versus when we took her last year and it was still more for us than her!

Boston Hill Farm is one of my favorite farms near Boston. They have pumpkins, apples, animals, a playground & farm store – it’s really the perfect place. With COVID times most farms are either not doing pick your own or requiring reservations. Boston Hill Farm doesn’t require reservations, but if you go first thing when they open or during the week at off peak hours it’s easy to socially distance.

After picking up our wagon and getting our bag to pick apples, we made our way to the first stop – the animals! While they don’t have many, the goats are really the show stoppers! Sophia spent a solid half hour feeding and talking to them. It never ceases to amaze me how fearless she is with animals.

We planned to meet our friends and once they arrived we made the 10 minute walk to the orchard. You have sweeping views of the farm, rows and rows of apples to pick from and plenty of space to keep from others. Of course it’s not apple picking without taste testing a few while you’re there. Pretty sure that Sophia ate more apples while we picked than she has in the last 5 months!

After enough time in the orchard we devoured delicious apple cider donuts which is a must and picked out our pumpkins to take home! If you’re looking for an easy apple pie recipe – check this one out I posted back in 2014 – it’s still my go to!

I think my concerned face says it all!

Are you planning on going apple picking this year?

My daughter loved apple picking when she was younger! It sounds like a perfect day! And, the perfect excuse to pick up some apple cider donuts!

My kids always eat so many apples while picking too but I rarely see them grab any once we’re home! Those donuts look delicious too. What a beautiful day.

This farm sounds like so much fun! We can’t wait to go apple picking. We usually go as a tradition around my oldest som’s birthday, so we’re looking forward to that. You had some beautiful weather when you went.

We just came home from apple picking, lol! It’s not something I grew up doing either. It’s nice to create new traditions with them, as well as the old, right?! I’m sure Sophia was in heaven eating her cider donuts. The one we went to didn’t have any animals or activities. I was looking for one that did, but we needed to book reservations in advance (which we didn’t know) and there were no spots left until the end of the season. We’ll have to next year, fingers crossed things will be much better and familiar in the world then. Thanks for sharing, beautiful, and I hope you have a great start to your week!
