Our Laid Back Christmas

Happy Monday, friends!! How was the holiday break for you? I was really excited to celebrate the holidays this year – especially since this was our first one in the new house and also Mason’s first Christmas!! In true newborn fashion he could care less about what he got and it’s for that exact reason we only got Mason two gifts that he will grow into using and some teethers! For Sophia, well that rule didn’t apply and now that she grasps the concept of Santa a little more we tried to do it up for her without going overboard!

I like to have a very stress free morning and get as much done ahead of time as possible. I saw a lot of debate over whether Santa’s presents get wrapped and well I deferred to Gary on this since I didn’t grow up with Christmas and we decided Santa wouldn’t wrap presents! Gary also assembled everything well in advance and stored it in our attic, so the night before there wasn’t much to do. I also make my breakfast quiche the night before so we can just reheat and eat it! We cant really put any gifts under the tree ahead of time yet because Sophia would 100% try to open them, so those all get placed the night before!

I count myself lucky that Sophia didn’t wake us up at the crack of dawn to come downstairs – reasonable start to the morning at 7:00 AM! I was really worried that she would have a meltdown because of how much excitement the morning brought, but thankfully all the new toys were a great distraction to the morning of present opening being done. Trust me, our day was not meltdown free…it’s the age and all that goes with it!

We got Mason the Anywhere Chair as his big gift – the same thing we got Sophia on her first Christmas and Sophia got the Melissa and Doug Piano for her big gift! Wouldn’t you know that the $15 bag of barbie clothes and accessories was really the biggest winner of the whole day!

Getting to spend the whole day in PJs is my favorite – mostly because I never do it! I also don’t know how long the kiddies will be up for the matching PJ game, so I will take it as long as I can! I got us this Hanna Andersson set. I didn’t realize the black and white pattern would be such a great choice, but Mason was mesmerized by it! Also, tripods and self timers are really the winner of the holiday season for the last two years!

I didn’t make a fuss about food – we had a charcuterie board for lunch and for dinner I made twice baked potatoes, asparagus and preseasoned ribs! Truly the easiest dinner ever!

Sophia quickly changed into one of her princess dresses that we got her!

We decided that when the kids are little, we would do everything we could to have Christmas morning at our house. I want those memories for them, I want those memories for us and I want our traditions to evolve as they grow up!

How was your holiday weekend?

What a nice easy Christmas! Santa presents were never wrapped in my house and I still can’t believe I didn’t realize the truth when my cousins reported theirs were wrapped, lol!

Love Mason’s chair and Sophia’s piano. Kids are so fun at those ages. Great family photos in the PJs.

Santa doesn’t wrap presents in our house either. I grew up that way, too! It makes for a much less stressful time for mom and dad. :o) I love that y’all had the whole day at home, just the four of you together. It sounded like the perfect day!

I love your laid back Christmas. My girls had some serious meltdowns and sassy moments. It was a little rough at times, but we still had a great day. Love all of your matching pjs!
