Summer Dates Are Good for the Soul

Remember when I said that Gary and I were trying to get more dates on the calendar, well this past weekend we were able to do just that. Two dates in two months, who are we?! Our incredible former nanny was free to hang with Sophia and my mom gladly watched Mason, and that gave us the chance to check out a new to us restaurant on the North Shore!

1606 Restaurant & Oyster Bar is located inside the Beauport Hotel in Glouster, MA with fantastic ocean views! It truly felt like we were on vacation while dining on the deck. When we were in Santa Barbara a few years ago, I had this lobster bisque I was sure would never be topped and up until Saturday, it hadn’t! This lobster bisque was out of this world delicious! They are definitely known for the oysters which Gary enjoyed – still can’t eat them myself! I was a little worried the crab cake wouldn’t be big enough to share – definitely was! Everything was surprisingly pretty filling, so we split the halibut – again cooked to perfection!

The deck also has a great area overlooking the beach with rocking chairs. We just chilled out for a bit and really pretended to be on vacation – if only for a few hours!

After lunch we ventured a few miles down the road and headed to Rockport, another coastal town. This small little town not only has some of the most beautiful beach views, but also over 30 art galleries featuring nearly 400 different artists – in fact in the 1900’s it was portrayed a lot by watercolor artists. If you ever find yourself here, you’re going to want to grab a lobster roll and go on a lobster catching tour!

The only other time we’d been to Rockport was for a wedding so we didn’t really explore. We walked down the main downtown area and basked in the glorious weather! After passing tons of great restaurants, I know we’re going to head back with the kids one day soon. The perfect half day trip if you’re near Boston!

These little day dates are exactly the rejuvenation that Gary and I need and crave during this season of life! It’s pretty funny how quickly the kids bring you right back from your relaxing bubble when you get home!
