A Babymoon Getaway

Happy Monday, friends! Thanks to my parents, Gary and I were able to take a midweek getaway for our babymoon. We decided to take a couple days during the week for a couple of reasons – the main one being that we would still get to have our weekend with Sophia when we got back! Wednesday afternoon we left for Southport, CT which is about 3 hours from Boston.

I can honestly say that picking a destination was really hard because practically everything was sold out this summer! Understandably so because everyone wants to travel, but that make picking a location tough – but I have heard such amazing things about all the towns in Fairfield County and it wasn’t too far from us, so that’ s where we went! We’re also not ready to fly just yet, so it had to be driving distance and not too far! Southport, CT came highly recommended, is close to the beach (minutes away) and is close to New York City as well!

Choosing a hotel was the easiest part for me – there was only one place I wanted to stay and that was the Delamar. It came highly recommended, is centrally located and has one of the best restaurants in Fairfield County! Our room was beautiful and so spacious! I’m going to have a IG Reel with a little tour later today! Unexpected perks included turn down service every night and the amazing included breakfast each morning.

I made a reservation at Artisan, which happens to be one of the best restaurants to dine at and is located inside the hotel – perfection! I was craving a lobster roll & my wish came true! The food was seriously delicious, starting with the cocktails / mocktails! I actually dont like drinking mocktails because they are always too sweet, but this was like a refreshing higher end lemonade! We split the truffled gnocchi and Gary got the lobster fettuccine while I devoured my lobster roll. I’ll get to the dessert a little later since we opted to go to somewhere else for ice cream!

We asked the concierge for a good ice cream place and they recommended Milkcraft! This ice cream is not for the faint of heart and honestly one scoop shared is all you need because I couldn’t even finish mine, but it was one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had! Maybe the quick melting was due to it being 100 degrees outside, but it was a messy experience for me!

One of the best things about this trip was that we had zero plans! Since NYC was only 1.5 away via train and the train station was only a 4 minute walk from our hotel, we thought why not head into the city! The train ride was easy and quick with us being dropped off at Grand Central.

From there we walked up 5th avenue to Central Park and even though it was crazy humid and hot, we still had a great time. There really was no way I was walking all the way to Hudson Yards so we hopped in a cab and made our way to the mall for some air conditioning. After lunch and a bit of shopping (nothing for me) we walked a bit on the High Line.

The city wasn’t as crowded as you would have expected, but I was perfectly happy having distance from people. We still wore our masks inside and outside when there were people on the sidewalk near us. Also, wore it the entire time on the train which was mandatory. Our train back put us back in Southport at 4:30 with just enough time to relax a bit in the room and then get ready for dinner at The Gray Goose Cafe which was across the street from our hotel, so not a far walk at all!

We had a ton of the apps and then split the steak tacos – it was all delicious! The night before at Artisan we saw dessert that we wanted to go back for, so that’s exactly what we did!

Since we may not have any time to take maternity photos, we managed to snap a few before leaving on Friday and honestly I’m so impressed because we didn’t even have a tripod and this is from am iPhone! Heres a few and I’ll share more in another post!

We probably could have explored some of the cute little shops, gone to the beach & other restaurants, but that really wasn’t what we wanted. This trip was about getting much needed rest, uninterrupted sleep and celebrating the upcoming arrival of baby boy. All of which were checked off and accomplished and I’m thinking it probably will be a long time before we can get another getaway like this!!

The perfect getaway, and love that you went mid-week so you could still spend the weekend with Sophia. Growing up in CT, we took the train to the city a lot especially for Yankee games! And now I’m totally craving some ice cream <3
